One clear suggestion for your day

Guidance is a short card at the top of the FitRest Dashboard that answers one question: what should I do today? It reads your recovery, sleep, stress, effort and pace together and gives you one action, with a sentence that explains why using your own numbers.

What Guidance shows

The Guidance card has three parts. A small coloured eyebrow sums up your state, for example "GOOD RECOVERY, LOW EXERTION". A short verdict tells you what to do. A sentence underneath explains it, quoting your own figures so you can see where the advice came from. Some of the verdicts you might see:

  • "Good time to train." or "Train as you planned."
  • "Steady effort today." or "Keep the intensity low."
  • "Go gentle today.", "Skip hard training." or "Take a rest day."
  • "Time to get moving." or "Keep today very light."
  • "Take a few minutes to breathe." or "Wind down early tonight."
  • "Call it a day."

Why one suggestion beats six numbers

Scores are useful, but on a busy morning nobody wants to weigh Recovery against Sleep against Stress and work out what it all means. The scores can also point in different directions: a decent Recovery after a short night, or a fresh body on a day that is already running high on stress. Guidance does that weighing for you and lands on one thing to do.

Consistently matching effort to readiness is one of the simplest ways to keep improving without burning out. Training hard when you are well recovered and easing off when you are not tends to beat sticking rigidly to a plan. Guidance makes that habit easy by turning your data into a plain decision you can act on in seconds.

Honest when data is missing

Guidance would rather tell you why it cannot help than give you a wrong answer. If something is missing you see a reason instead, such as "Check Health access.", "Recovery needs overnight data.", "Last night is still syncing." or "Wear your tracker to bed tonight."

It works best with a watch worn overnight, because your overnight data makes the advice more personal. With iPhone alone, Guidance falls back to movement-only advice: your steps and workouts still count.

On your wrist too

The same suggestion appears as the Guidance row on the Today page of the FitRest Apple Watch app, so you can check it on the way out of the door. If a suggestion is not right for your day, long-press the card on iPhone and choose Not today to dismiss it.

How to use it

  1. 1Read Guidance first thing in the morning, before you open any individual score.
  2. 2Use the explanation sentence to see which of your numbers drove the advice.
  3. 3Read the eyebrow line to see at a glance which state you are in, such as good recovery with low exertion so far.
  4. 4Dismiss it with Not today when you already have a plan that the card cannot know about.

Guidance: questions and answers

How does FitRest decide what to suggest?

Guidance reads your recovery, sleep, stress, exertion and activity pace together and picks the one action that fits them best. The explanation under each verdict quotes the numbers it used.

Does Guidance work without an Apple Watch?

Partly. Recovery and stress need a watch worn overnight, so with iPhone alone Guidance gives movement-only advice based on your steps and workouts.

Why does Guidance say "Last night is still syncing."?

Your watch has not finished passing last night's sleep and heart data to Apple Health yet. Give it a few minutes with your iPhone nearby and the suggestion will update.

Can I see Guidance for a past day?

No. Guidance is about what to do today, so it appears for today only.
