Privacy at a Glance
Your Health Data Stays in Apple Health
FitRest reads health data from Apple Health on your device, only with your permission, and calculates your scores and insights on your device. FitRest does not run its own servers and never uploads your Apple Health data anywhere.
No Account, No Ads, No Tracking
There is no FitRest account to create. FitRest does not show ads, does not sell your data and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
What Leaves Your Device
App settings and a summary of your daily scores sync between your own devices through your private iCloud account. FitRest also uses Google Firebase Analytics to count installs and app usage anonymously. Neither includes your Apple Health records. Both are explained below.
1. Information We Access
Health Data
FitRest accesses health information from Apple's HealthKit framework only with your permission. This includes sleep data, heart rate, activity metrics, and other information you choose to share through HealthKit.
- Sleep duration, sleep stages, bedtime, wake time, respiratory rate and wrist temperature
- Heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, heart rate recovery and VO2 max
- Steps, distance, energy burned, exercise time, workouts and workout routes
- Blood oxygen, time in daylight and mindful minutes
- Height, weight, body measurements, date of birth and sex, used for personal metrics
- Water, caffeine, blood glucose and blood pressure entries
- Other HealthKit metrics you enable
Health Data FitRest Writes
When you log water, caffeine, blood glucose, blood pressure, a breathing session, your weight or your height in FitRest, the entry is saved to Apple Health if you allow it. You can turn saving to Apple Health off for each log type in the app.
App Usage Data (Analytics)
FitRest uses Google Firebase Analytics in the App Store version of the app. It collects anonymous usage information, such as when the app is first opened, app sessions, in-app purchases, app version, device model, iOS version and approximate region, plus whether a device is a new install or an existing user updating. This helps us understand how people find and use FitRest, including which of our ad campaigns led to an install. It uses identifiers created for apps, such as an app instance ID, not your name, email or Apple ID, and FitRest does not access the advertising identifier. Firebase Analytics never receives your Apple Health data or your scores.
2. How We Use Information
Health data is used only to generate insights, charts, and personalized recommendations within the app. We never sell this information.
All health calculations happen locally on your device. Anonymous analytics are used only to understand how many people install and use FitRest so we can improve the app.
3. Data Storage and Security
On Your Device
Your Apple Health data stays in Apple Health and is protected by iOS device encryption. FitRest keeps its own app data, such as preferences and cached results, in the app's storage on your device.
What Syncs Through Your iCloud Account
So that your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch stay in step, FitRest stores a small amount of data in your private iCloud account using Apple's iCloud key-value storage:
- App settings such as units, language, Apple Watch page layout and caffeine drink presets
- A summary of your daily scores and today's Guidance text, so your devices and widgets show the same results
This data is stored in your own iCloud account, protected by Apple's iCloud security. We cannot see it. Your log entries themselves sync through Apple Health, which handles its own syncing between your devices.
Security Measures
Since we do not run servers that store your data, the security of your health data is handled by Apple's HealthKit and iCloud. Analytics data is handled by Google under the Firebase terms.
4. Data Sharing
Health Data Protection
We do not sell or share your health information with third parties. Your Apple Health data is never sent to us, to Google or to any other service.
Service Providers
Anonymous usage data is processed by Google as the provider of Firebase Analytics. Data you sync through iCloud is stored by Apple in your account.
User-Controlled Sharing
You control your data sharing:
- Export features let you share your own data as you choose
- Integration with Apple Health allows data sharing with other health apps you authorize
- All sharing requires your permission
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information only when required by law, such as responding to valid legal processes or protecting safety.
5. Your Privacy Controls
Control Health Permissions
You can manage what health data FitRest can access at any time:
- On iPhone, go to Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > FitRest, or open the Health app, tap your profile picture and choose Apps
- Turn specific data permissions on or off
- Remove all permissions to stop data access completely
Your Data Rights
- Access: everything FitRest shows comes from data you can view in the app and in Apple Health
- Export: export your logs in CSV or PDF format
- Delete app data: deleting FitRest removes its app data from your device
- Delete Apple Health entries: entries FitRest saved stay in Apple Health until you delete them there
- iCloud: you can remove FitRest's iCloud data in Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage Storage, or turn off iCloud for FitRest
- Analytics: to ask about or delete anonymous analytics data, contact us at the address below
6. Data Retention
We do not keep copies of your health data on any server. Data in Apple Health and iCloud stays until you delete it. Anonymous analytics data is kept by Google for a limited period, no longer than 14 months, and then deleted automatically.
7. International Users
Health data processing occurs locally on your device wherever you are. Anonymous analytics data may be processed by Google in other countries under Google's data protection terms.
8. Third-Party Services
FitRest uses these services, which have their own privacy policies:
- Apple HealthKit and iCloud: Apple Privacy Policy
- Google Firebase Analytics: Privacy and Security in Firebase
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Significant changes will be communicated in the app.
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- Significant changes will be communicated through the app
- Continued use of FitRest after updates means you accept the changes
